My historical photo is a tribute to my father, Marshall H. McClarnon, Jr.

True Story:
When I was in preschool my father decided to shave his moustache while I was at school. He came to pick me up and I refused to go with him. I ran into the classroom crying and hiding behind the teacher saying "That's not my daddy, my daddy has a moustache!" All of you with children keep that in mind when this May is over.

His was the first moustache I can remember. While I was growing up he played in a party band called "Paradise" and they were awesome. I'm wearing the shirt and sunglasses that he often played in.

Love ya, Fada!

Great tribute, great story. My dad has had a moustache for as long as I can remembr. In fact, I don't think I can find a single picture where he doesn't have one.

Great story. What lighting setup do you use? You can always tell when it's one of your photos, always so well done. I would love to know what you use to get your "chad" effect.

I love how moustaches have such an impact in the formative years of our lives. I don't know my father without facial hair.

My dad had a stache my entire life until right before I graduated college at 24. He had his stache for about 30 years.

Totally true story. Also, awesome tribute to our father.

On a side note, I roadied for that band for a long time. Fender Quad Reverb amps are heavy when you're 12

@shablazm my lighting varies all the time, but this photo is a AlienBees B800 with a 46" Photek Softlighter on it at full power, setup just to the right of the camera. It's easily my favorite light source other than natural light.

Shablazm says:
I'm thinking about picking up some lighting since all I use now is a bounce flash on my camera. Would you suggest the AlienBees, or would there be something better for the beginner photo enthusiast?

chadmcclarnon says:
@shablazm I've had my alienbees for over 7 years now and they've never failed me. They're an incredible value for the price, and I've never needed any more than the 4 that I B800s I own.
