My heart beats in breakdowns and buildups.

Since college I have been listening to heavy music. I mix in a little indie here and there but recently, I have been choosing to listen to heavier music almost exclusively.

The problem is I have not been spending much time finding new music and going to shows. I have been stuck in the music I found during college. Recently I visited my friend in San Francisco and he burned me a CD with a bunch of new music.

Yes, the screaming may be a little scary. Yes, what they talk about may not always be nice (but not necessarily). But the heavy drums, heart beating bass, screeching guitars, it all makes me happy.

Here is a sample of what is on the CD:

Seems like you'd be a prime candidate for a Post-Rock fan - ala Mogwai. It's got the slower builds / softer side to it but still with the huge impactful moments too.

@wondermade I'll agree with you on Mars Volta since I've been a long time At the Drive In fan. Though new MV seems a bit too eccentric, leaving behind their roots. My hardcore days are pretty much over, I tend to listen more to "heavier" instrumental music like Pelican and Don Caballero.

wondermade superpapa Yeah, I know most people are leaving hardcore by the the they get to our age, but I still feel like sticking to it. Other music doesn't make me feel the way hardcore does. I mix in some instrumental like Pelican and I will have to check out Don Caballero.

mackle yeah I've listened to Mogwai since college and go back to it now and then. I'll have to check out the other four though. Thanks for the suggestions.
