My musical tastes are eclectic and seemingly contradictory at times. However, the one constant is my absolute love for quite possibly the most unique musical instrument; the human voice.

For those unaware a cappella music is as interesting and diverse as the people who make it. It's a relatively unknown genre of mainstream music usually associated with collegiate groups such as the New York Medical College Arrhythmias or the Harvard Law School Scales of Justice.

The modern a cappella world spans all other genres of music to produce arrangements of everything from traditional prayers to classic rock, current pop hits, and even tv theme songs.

One of my personal favorites is a track from Ben Fold's collegiate a cappella album.

I went to see Ben Folds on the tour where he brought in local a capella groups as openers. It was confusing to those unprepared.

Among the first bands I ever saw live was The Trenchcoats (renamed post-Columbine to The Coats). They have good taste in the songs they cover and do them really well (clame for slightly terrible recording of them doing Whip It), but their on-stage banter can be tiresome.

I'm also a fan of Tonic Sol-Fa and The Blanks.

A few years ago, my friend wrote an a cappella score for several songs off of Franz Ferdinand's first album. I didn't really hear how the performance went but the score sounded pretty cool. Very unique, to be sure.
