this was shot in broad daylight in the middle of my living room, the reason it looks dark around me is because i had the flash(es) bumped up to be more powerful than the ambient light and the aperture was stopped down to f/16. A narrow aperture effectively limits the amount of daylight able to sneak in to very low levels on a 1/125 sec exposure and means that basically the only thing that you'll "see" is where the flash hits. Viola! "Black" background.

Also, I think the moustache makes you look French, so all you have to do to get your wife to like it is to find some romantic French courting phrases and say them to her, romantically of course, and with a rose, and voila! She'll love it there after. hahaha...that's my theory at least.
