There is simply no way to write a caption that encapsulates all of my thoughts and viewpoints on Moustache May / Whiskerino / facial hair communities. There is a lot to say and squeezing it into this space wouldn't do any of it justice.

I will say this, I assumed that when the end came I would feel total relief... finally casting off the duties of curator and the guilt of not participating enough. In fact, I feel quite a bit of reluctance to let it go. This is a wonderfully special place. I am sad to close to doors on this incredible thing we helped create but I also know that in order to preserve its greatness, we have to stop.

So, I look to the future and challenge each and everyone of you in the NEXT step of Moustache May. Your task is two-fold:

1) Actually continue to keep in contact with each other. The friendships made here are a tight bond, don't let that fall apart. Exchange emails, IMs, websites, tumblrs, snail mail addresses, facebook profiles, whatever it takes to maintain your contact. Don't let Moustache May fizzle out.

2) Keep being creative. You all have proven that this site provides a stomping ground for great imagination (and entertainment). Find a way to harness that beyond today. You're too good not to.

I can't thank all of you enough. Moustache May exists because you all come to the site, post such amazing things and generate a community that is absolutely unexplainable to the outside world.

I am humbled by everything that's happened since the first undertaking in 2003. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

I'll see you on the outside.

I've noticed how highly intelligent we here on MM may as a collective group really are. Much of the caption fodder is mind blowingly well written. The art is beautiful, and the people are kind. Im beginning to think it takes a certain kind of person to have and keep a moustache. Its a lot of work. It can get annoying at times, but we press on. A moustache is a commitment. The commitment you have made to this community every year since 03 is incredible. Really. Karma is on your side. Take it light, Mr. Mackle. I know you'll continue to be involved in making people happy in some way or another for as ling as you live. You're a leader. And that suit is nice.

Thank you Mackle. I stumbled across the concept of MM only this April and had no idea what I was letting myself in for. It turned out to be a facial hair adventure I could never have imagined, full of art, humour and so much mutual respect and old-fashioned niceness I can't fully comprehend it still. I'm a bit out in the sticks here in Accra but I've already made plans to meet brokenchopsticks and silentbobuk on my return to the UK and hope we can get kippercat and any others near London to join us. So your plan is working.

Again.

To answer your questions:

"can we still exchange postcards with mailfromhale?" Yes, please.

"can i still crash at your place completely unannounced?" ANYTIME.

"can you still send me, occasionally, weird links?" I will do so.

"can i still marvel at your flickr photostream?" I would be honored.

"can i ever thank you enough for proving that a mean looking stranger in a beard contest can turn out to be one of the raddest individuals i've ever had the pleasure of meeting?" I can easily ask you the same, minus the mean part.

Thank you brother.

It's always intimidating to follow hale, whether comment or photo, but here goes. Thanks for all the hard work you've put into MM and Whiskerino throughout the years. As someone who also works in web I know the hours that can go into creation and maintenance. Not to mention curating. I can only hope you felt it was all worth it looking back, even through all the frustrations and annoyances.

It's been great following your photos throughout the years., reading your blog(s), and listening to your mixes. Keep on publishing and creating. I will keep reading and listening. Take care.

Oh and sorry for the last hack. It was a last minute idea that I cranked out in 30 minutes last night. But I found it really amusing especially seeing it implemented.

In a way I'm glad it's over. The looming end has forced me to take all the pictures that I've thought about doing but never gotten around to.

Hey, thanks for letting me hang out with you more that day even though it was awkward. Otherwise I would have not gotten to meet zea.

I will still lurk around on the internet and perhaps one day we will eat a burrito. By the way, don't you still owe me one?

well, what a long strange trip its been. who would have known this would have grown to this amazing, creative community? i guess i just cant get over the thought that this all could have never happened past the first year or two. after which, there were guys who found it, like hungarianmoustache and smoustacherman, and others... who took it to the next level. as if, moustache may was invented so they could have a venue and we could be their audience. its been fun to watch it grow. thanks for sticking with it.

hope to see you in nashville some time, or if you're ever in pittsburgh gimme a holler.
