BEG1N N3RD TR4NSM1SS10N//.....

Back in '98, I went to my first show in downtown Nashville since moving to the middle TN area the prior year. Little did I know that one September night would reroute my personal history for the best. That's the night I saw Man...Or Astro-Man? for the first time.
After finding every one way street that would eventually lead us to The End, my friends and I went inside and were greeted with a stage full of old television sets, monochrome monitors, industrial tubing, and strange electronics. We knew we were in for something special and we were not disappointed! After a blazing set of sci-fi surf instrumentals, I returned home with an excitement for music that I had not felt for quite some time. This is the first time that I realized a drummer could be as charismatic as the front man, and caused me to become less "Charlie Watts" and more "Animal". Their drummer became a huge influence on my style of playing and stage presence. I subconsciously steal his moves and demeanor when I play to this day. To add to that effect, I currently play on a kit that I bought from him a few months back. The kit will be showing up in a future MM pic, btw.
Even my personal life has been affected by this band. I've had friendships, relationships, and living situations that would not exist without their music. One of their current members (they've been through a few changes) is the chap that introduced me to my current band/housemate back in 2003 and is, therefore, the reason I am now an East Nashvillian.
I've seen Man...Or Astro-Man? roughly 20 times (mostly between '98 and '01, before their five year hiatus) in 9 cities across 5 different states. I have recorded at their studio in Atlanta. They are the reason I bought a theremin. I have a section in my closet dedicated to their t-shirts. I have numerous records, posters, and collectibles. See that fancy 7" I'm holding? Only 300 exist. I made an 8-hour round trip drive by myself to buy it from the only record store in the world that was selling it. I am an Astro-Nerd and I am damn proud of it!
I could talk about this band all night, but I'll spare you. I will attempt to throw a couple of clame links in the comments for any non-previous fan that may be intrigued. Thanks for listenin'!
Oh, and did I mention.....THEY'RE FROM SPACE!!!

On an unrelated music note, for any Nashville area staches or lurkers: I will be going to the Neko Case show at the Cannery tonight. If anyone else will be in attendance, hunt me down and say hey!

@hodges Thanks, man! That truly means a lot coming from you!

andy My roommate and I were in Clist (and a few others) for a few years, but that's all but died. We were in talks to start a doom/stoner metal band before he moves out west, just for the hell of it. We'll see how that goes. I've also been in talks with a coworker about starting a garage/punk/surf band sometime in the future. Looking for 2 guitarists w/ bg vocals that may interested in such a project. Also...I have a recording of that show at The End if you ever want a copy for nostalgia's sake!
