In the last year, we moved to a beach town outside of Chicago. I have travelled to 24 countries backpacking by myself, and I sometimes find surreal how I ended up here. We are adjusting to living in a smaller town, settling down, trying to grow 30% of own food, and cutting expenses so we could pursue our art. We wanted a garden and we thought to develop educational programs here to grow creativity as we see it as a life tool. We knew nature is imperative in this chapter of our lives. And, we thought we could help this town with our experiences. But the provinciality and insularity in the minds of our town folk are rampant. After a year, we are starting to adjust by mixing our romance with our reality.

After a year, this kitsch "red neck" look is no longer funny. Actually it is, as long as it's accessory is not racism.

Really wonderful to hear! I just moved back to NYC after a few years in Chicago, "Garden" has trumped most other aspirations these days. Awesome to hear about folks making it work.

No..this is our future brother- in- law,Tim.....we are playing corn toss, a Midwestern game. Tim and Hungarian are the only two men who wear ties on their day off. Freaks!

Thank you for that. I thought maybe you had removed Hungarian's moustache in keeping with the theme. This is the first time I've seen you in something other than a dress. You wear both very well.

Thanks! I have all kinds of looks...but i can honestly say we dress in folk costumes a lot and not for MM....but because we feel ridiculous in them which is how we feel in our skin. I love handicraft, lovingly made things...but I also an artist who used to be a sculptor. So, I have work clothes. ....and denim falls into that category for me. I have always been a textile monger.....wearing antique clothes, lovingly made things help me to remember my reality....a little like dschonn. For many years,I had such long hair it dangled five inches past my hand and I would braid it like Princess Leia intertwining flowers and ribbons. Though I look more conventional more often, the transformation is mearly an effort to have fewer "objects" and more ideas.

Dschonn says:
It's getting to where I feel uncomfortable in 'normal' clothing. I tried to wear a t-shirt, jeans and hoodie today, but couldn't bring myself not to have a collared shirt on. I had to stop myself putting on a tie as well, though I may yet do that if I go out later.
My handcrafted clothes are less an attempt to remind me of reality than an effort to make my fantasy real, and as you say, to express my sense that I don't fit the world or it doesn't fit me. But I'm still young; I expect I'll get a little more comfortable in my own skin eventually.

I am not sure why I left you all for weeks/days too long. I think I had to dwindle since I really had to focus on my own work and this thing is not my gig, its my husband's. I think I was feeling sad it was closing, it was hard to get involved knowing it was ending...I am not really sure, I am still trying to figure it out. I had this idea to post my real work on here but I can't do it in a day so I just had to focus on what I was dojng. We leave in a two days for Nashville...so meet us there and keep in touch y'all.
